Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Traubi or Traubisoda is a popular soft drink that tastes like grape juice. It's made in countries like Hungary, Austria, and Croatia.

In Hungary, for many years before 1995, Traubi was made by a company called Traubi Hungaria. Their factory was in a village called Balatonvilágos. They used a special kind of Hungarian grape called saszla to make the drink. The name "Traubi" comes from the German word "Trauben," which means grape. If you visited the factory, you could see how they made the drink, from picking the grapes to putting the soda into bottles.

In Austria, a company called Waldquelle Kobersdorf GmbH makes Traubi in Kobersdorf. A Croatian company, Trento sokovi, has been allowed to make Traubi since 2006. They produce it in Brestovac.

The Story of Traubi

The special grape flavor for Traubi was first created in Austria in 1954 by a person named Lenz Moser. In 1971, Traubi Hungaria got the permission to make this drink. Traubi quickly became very popular in Hungary. It was exciting because it was one of the first fizzy drinks made in Hungary! Because so many people liked it, Traubi was also made in other towns like Kunbaja, Csány, and Debrecen.

After Traubi became a big hit, another fizzy drink called Márka appeared in Hungary in 1973. Márka was also very popular back then, and it still is today! People like Márka for its different fruit flavors, like orange, grape, sour cherry, and raspberry.

In the 1980s, other drinks like Coca-Cola became more common. This meant that Traubi wasn't as popular, and less of it was made. In 1992, Traubi Hungaria bought the original Traubi factory in Balatonvilágos. However, after 1995, there were disagreements about who had the right to use the "Traubi" name and make the drink. Different companies ended up making Traubi, which led to many years of discussions about the brand.

Even though one company, Traubi Hungaria, used the old factory and the same name, courts decided that another company, Ráthonyi Ltd, had the right to the "Traubi" brand name.
