Traubi facts for kids
Traubi, also known as Traubisoda, is a bubbly soft drink that tastes like grapes. It's a popular drink made in countries like Hungary, Austria, and Croatia.
For many years, a company called Traubi Hungaria made this drink in a Hungarian village called Balatonvilágos. They used a special type of Hungarian grape called saszla. The name "Traubi" actually comes from the German word for "grapes." In Austria, a company called Waldquelle makes Traubi. Since 2006, a Croatian company called Trento sokovi has also been making it in Brestovac, with permission from Waldquelle.
The Story of Traubi
The special grape flavor for Traubi was first created in Austria in 1954 by a person named Lenz Moser. In 1971, Traubi Hungaria got the right to make this flavor. The new fizzy drink quickly became very popular. It was one of the first fizzy drinks in Hungary! Because so many people liked it, Traubi was also made in other Hungarian towns like Kunbaja, Csány, and Debrecen.
After Traubi's success, another Hungarian soft drink called Márka appeared in 1973. Márka also became very popular and is still enjoyed today. Márka comes in many flavors, including orange, grape, sour cherry, and raspberry.
In the 1980s, other drinks like Coca-Cola became more common. This made Traubi a bit less popular, and its production went down. Later, there was a long disagreement about who owned the Traubi brand. Despite some challenges, Traubi is still made and enjoyed today.
Why Traubi is Popular
People who make Traubi wanted to know why it was so popular. They found that many Hungarians who were teenagers in the 1980s felt a special connection to the drink. Drinking Traubi brings back happy memories for many people from their past. This makes Traubi a very special drink in Hungary.
