Tray Chaney is an American actor and musician. He is well-known for his role as Malik "Poot" Carr in the HBO TV show The Wire. He also plays the character Kendrick in the Bounce TV series Saints & Sinners.

Tray Chaney's Acting Journey

Tray Chaney started his career as a dancer when he was only four years old. He even won dance competitions at the famous Apollo Theater. Later, he appeared in a music video for the rap artist Bow Wow called "My Baby" in 2003. He also appeared in a commercial for The Wire in 2006. You might have also seen him on America's Most Wanted, where he played a character named Jerry Robinson.

When Tray Chaney first tried out for The Wire, he auditioned for a different role. Even though he didn't get that part, the show's creators were so impressed that they made a special character just for him: Poot. The producer Robert F. Colesberry even came up with the name "Poot." Tray Chaney also starred as Kendrick in the TV show Saints & Sinners.

He has also written a book called The Truth You Can't beTray, which he published himself in January 2007. Besides acting, Tray Chaney has produced several movies and even has his own line of perfumes. He is also a recording artist, making his own music.

Tray Chaney grew up in Forestville, Maryland. Today, he lives with his wife in Locust Grove, Georgia. He has a son named Malachi.

In May 2025, a strong tornado hit his home in Locust Grove, Georgia. His son, Malachi Chaney, was injured during the storm.
