What Were Treets?
The first Treets candy appeared in the UK in the 1960s. These candies had a peanut in the middle. The peanut was covered in milk chocolate. Then, a dark brown, shiny candy shell covered the chocolate.
Different Kinds of Treets
Later, Mars sold different types of Treets.
- Peanut Treets came in a yellow packet. These were the original peanut and chocolate candies.
- Toffee Treets came in a blue packet. They had a chewy toffee center instead of a peanut.
- Chocolate Treets came in a brown packet. These were just milk chocolate inside, shaped like a button.
All these candies had the same shiny outer coating.
The Famous Slogan
Treets were known for their catchy slogan: "Melt in your mouth, not in your hand." This famous phrase started in 1967. Interestingly, the company Mars also used this slogan for their M&M's candies in the United States since 1949.
Why Treets Disappeared
Mars stopped making Treets in 1988. Before that, Chocolate Treets were replaced by a similar candy called Minstrels. Peanut Treets were replaced by the colorful Peanut M&M's. Toffee Treets were briefly sold as "Relays" before they were stopped completely.
Treets Come Back!
Mars brought Peanut Treets back for a short time in the UK in July 2009. However, in 2017, Mars let go of their rights to the Treets brand.
In 2018, a different company called Katjes took over the brand. They brought Treets back to France. By 2021, the Treets range had grown a lot. It now includes more than just the original candy-coated treats. You can find new items like Peanut Caramel Choco and Sea Salt, Peanut Butter Caramel Bites, and Peanut Butter Cups. They even sell jars of Creamy Peanut Butter and Choco Peanut Butter.
