Tres Islas is located in the western part of the Cerro Largo Department. It sits on a hill that shares its name, 'Tres Islas.' The town is north of the Quebracho Stream.
A smaller road connects Tres Islas to Route 7. The town is about 22 kilometers (13.6 miles) from the city of Fraile Muerto. It is also about 62 kilometers (38.5 miles) from Melo, which is the capital city of the department.
