Fraile Muerto is located on Route 7. It is about 38 kilometers (24 miles) west-southwest of Melo. Melo is another important city in Uruguay.
The History of Fraile Muerto
The town of Fraile Muerto was started on January 3, 1908. At first, it had different names like "Fructuoso Mazziotta" or "Wenceslao Silveira".
Later, on July 17, 1918, its name was officially changed to "Fraile Muerto". It was also given the status of a "Pueblo," which means a village. Then, on December 19, 1957, it became a "Villa," which is a larger town.
