Timothy Trevor West (born May 8, 1938 – died October 30, 2012) was an Irish mathematician, a university professor, and a politician. He was known for his work in mathematics and his strong support for sports. Trevor West also served as a Senator in the Irish parliament.

Early Life and Education
Trevor West was born on May 8, 1938, in County Cork, Ireland. He was the oldest of four sons. His father, Timothy Roberts West, was the headmaster of Midleton College.
Trevor went to school at Midleton College. He also attended The High School, Dublin. Later, he studied at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). He was chosen as a "scholar" there, which is a special honor. He also studied at the University of Cambridge in England.
His Work at Trinity College
In 1970, Trevor West became a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin. This means he was a senior member of the university staff. He was also a mathematics professor. He held a role called "Junior Dean." He was a big supporter of sports at Trinity College. He later became a "Senior Fellow" at the college.
Trevor West was also a member of the Royal Irish Academy. This is a group that promotes learning and research in Ireland.
A Career in Politics
On November 19, 1970, Trevor West was elected to Seanad Éireann. The Seanad is the upper house of the Irish parliament. He became a Senator for the Dublin University area. He was elected during a special election called a "by-election." This election happened because the previous Senator had passed away.
Speaking Up in Parliament
After he was elected, Trevor West became known for being a "liberal voice" in the Seanad. This means he often spoke up for new ideas and individual freedoms. He was one of the few people in the Seanad who held these views at the time.
He was re-elected as a Senator in 1973 and 1977. He lost his seat in 1981 but was elected again in 1982. He then lost his seat one last time in 1983.
Contributions to Mathematics and Books
Trevor West helped create the rules for the Irish Mathematical Society. This group helps mathematicians in Ireland. He worked with two other mathematicians, John T. Lewis and D. McQuillan, on this important task.
He also wrote several books. One book was called The Bold Collegians. This book was about the history of sports at Trinity College. Trevor West loved following Trinity College's sports teams. He also wrote a history book about Midleton College. This book was published in 1996 for the college's 300th anniversary.

Sports Hall Dedication
On September 14, 2018, a new sports hall was opened at Midleton College. This hall was dedicated to Trevor West's memory. The Provost of Trinity College, Patrick Prendergast, opened the new sports hall.
