Trini Tinturé (born Trinidad Tinturé Navarro; August 6, 1935 – January 18, 2024) was a talented Spanish artist. She was famous for drawing and illustrating comics. Her work is very important in the history of 20th-century comics.
Trini mostly created comics for readers in other countries. She was especially good at drawing stories for girls and teenagers. One of her most famous works in Spain is Emma es encantadora (Emma is Charming). She created this series in 1981 with writer Andreu Martín. Early Life and Artistic Beginnings
Trini Tinturé was born in Lleida, Spain, on August 6, 1935. Her family of six lived on the money her father earned from his carpentry shop.
From a very young age, Trini loved to draw. She learned to draw mostly by herself. In 1955, she won her first medal for artistic drawing. This award came from the Círculo de Bellas Artes in her hometown.
Starting a Career in Comics
In 1957, Trini Tinturé moved to Barcelona by train. She quickly found work as a cartoonist there. She worked for small publishing companies like Gráficas Soriano and Indedi. She drew for magazines made for children and teenagers.
In 1960, Trini joined a bigger publishing company called Editorial Bruguera. There, she drew for popular magazines like Celia and Sissi.
Drawing for International Readers
From Bruguera, Trini began working for foreign markets. She drew comics that were published in magazines in Germany, Austria, and the United Kingdom. Some of her comic series for these countries included Biggi, Jurtz, Jamp Shop, Tina, and Twinkle. She also worked on series like Jinty, Oh, Tinker!, and Curly.
Creating Emma es encantadora
Starting in 1981, Trini Tinturé created her most popular series, Emma es encantadora. She worked with writers Andreu Martín and Francisco Pérez Navarro on this project. The series appeared in the magazine Lily.
In 2015, the Barcelona International Comic Fair held a special exhibition. It was called "Female Comic Authors in Franco's Spain 1940/1970." Trini Tinturé's works were part of this important show. In 2023, she received the Grand Prize at the 41st Barcelona International Comic Fair. This award celebrated her long and successful career.
