Becoming a Painter
Archuleta became a well-known painter in the Taos area. He often worked with other artists. Together, they created large murals for public places. These murals were like big paintings on walls.
Time at D.H. Lawrence Ranch
When he was older, Archuleta and his wife, Rufina, spent time at the D. H. Lawrence Ranch. This ranch was a special place. It was connected to the famous writer D. H. Lawrence.
Archuleta was there with his uncle, Tony Luhan. Tony Luhan's wife, Mabel Dodge Luhan, was also there. Another artist, Dorothy Brett, joined them too.
Archuleta painted a picture of a buffalo on a wall at the ranch. You can still see this mural in the Lawrence Cabin. He also worked as a ranch hand. This meant he helped with jobs around the ranch. He was also a trail guide, helping people explore the area.
