About Tristan Bancks

Tristan Bancks trained to be an actor at Sydney's Q Theatre. After his training, he got a regular role on Home and Away as Tug O'Neale.

Life After Home and Away

After leaving Home and Away, Tristan lived in London for four years. There, he worked on television shows for channels like ITV, BBC, Channel Four, and Cable. He presented shows such as Don't Try This at Home and Sussed. He also hosted the second and third series of CITV's It's A Mystery and worked for The Travel Channel.

In 1999, Tristan moved back to Australia. He acted in short films like Ivan Sen's Dust. He also appeared in movies such as Beneath Clouds and the TV series Remote Area Nurse.

Tristan's Film Work

Since returning to Australia, Tristan has written and directed several short films. He adapted two award-winning stories into films: Sarah Armstrong's The Long Wet and John Campbell's The New Boots. Another one of his films, Soar, was shown at big events. These included the London Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand in France, and the Melbourne International Film Festival.

His most recent short film is called Every Day at School. This film was supported by SBS and Film Australia. It was part of their "Change the World in Five Minutes" campaign. The film encourages primary school classes across Australia to spend the first five minutes of each day doing something small to make the world better.

Becoming a Full-Time Author

For the past few years, Tristan has been writing books full-time. In 2009, he released Mac Slater Coolhunter 2: I Heart NY. This book was a follow-up to his earlier book, The Rules of Cool. He also released the Nitboy books, Bug Out and Lift Off, in 2009.

His first book for young adults, It's Yr Life, came out in June 2009. He wrote this book with Tempany Deckert, who was also an actress on Home and Away. Tristan has also written eight short novels in Macmillan's Kids Inc. series. These books are about kids who start their own businesses and projects.
