Troy Heinert, born on July 29, 1972, is an American politician. He served as a leader in the South Dakota Senate.
Heinert was first elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives in 2012. Later, in 2014, he was elected to the State Senate. He became the Senate's assistant minority leader in 2015. In 2018, he was chosen as the minority leader.
Early Life and Education
Troy Heinert was born in Spearfish, South Dakota. He grew up on a ranch in South Dakota. A ranch is a large farm where animals like cattle are raised. When he was 12, his father passed away. A kind family friend helped guide him.
Heinert went to local schools. He earned a degree in education. He is also a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. This is a Native American tribe.
Political Career and Public Service
Troy Heinert began his career as a teacher. He taught at an elementary school. He also coached wrestling, helping young athletes.
Heinert first entered politics by running for a school board position. He won a seat on the Todd County High School Board. He served on the board for three years.
In 2012, Heinert was elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives. He represented District 26A. This district included Todd and Mellette counties.
Two years later, in 2014, Heinert was elected to the South Dakota Senate. He continued to serve the people of South Dakota. Shawn Bordeaux took his place in the House of Representatives.

Troy Heinert is married to Gena. They have two sons and one daughter. The family lived in Mission, South Dakota.
