Tsering Hannaford is an Australian artist. She is known for her paintings. In 2012, Tsering and her father, Robert Hannaford, made history. They were the first father and daughter to have their art shown together in the Salon des Refusés. This exhibition features art that was not chosen for the main Archibald Prize. Then, in 2015, they were the first father and daughter to be chosen as finalists for the Archibald Prize itself.
Early Life and Education
Tsering Hannaford was born in 1987. Her parents were Shirley Andris and artist Robert Hannaford. They lived in West Hindmarsh, Australia. In the same year, her father bought an old farmhouse. It was near Riverton in South Australia. He turned it into a home and art studio.
Tsering grew up in both Riverton and West Hindmarsh. She went to the University of Adelaide. In 2008, she earned a degree in Psychology. Later, in 2011, she received a diploma in Art History.
Becoming an Artist
Tsering Hannaford has been painting since she was very young. Her father even set up a studio for her when she was only four years old. Even though she loved art, she also had many other interests.
After finishing university, Tsering focused on her painting. She is very good at painting portraits of people. She also paints beautiful landscapes and still life pictures. A still life painting shows objects like fruit or flowers. Tsering became a full-time artist in 2012.
She has been a finalist in several important art awards. These include the Portia Geach Memorial Award three times. She was also a semi-finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize. Her art was also shown twice in the Archibald Salon des Refusés.
Tsering has been a finalist for the famous Archibald Prize many times. She was a finalist in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. She was also a finalist in 2022 and 2024.
