Tsutomu Sonobe (園部 勉, Sonobe Tsutomu, born March 29, 1958) is a famous former Japanese football player. He was a strong defender who played for a club called Fujita Industries for many years. He also represented his country, Japan, as part of the national football team.

Starting His Club Career
Tsutomu Sonobe was born in Ibaraki Prefecture on March 29, 1958. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career in 1976. He joined a team known as Fujita Industries.
This club became very successful during his time there. They won the Japan Soccer League championship three times. These victories happened in 1977, 1979, and 1981.
Fujita Industries also won the Emperor's Cup, which is another important football tournament in Japan. They lifted this cup in 1977 and 1979. Tsutomu Sonobe played in 173 league games and scored 2 goals. His excellent skills as a defender were recognized. He was chosen for the "Best Eleven" team in both 1978 and 1979. He stopped playing professional football in 1989.

Tsutomu Sonobe also had the great honor of playing for the Japan national football team. He made his first appearance for the national team on May 23, 1978. This game was against the Thailand team.
