Turbo (Carswellena) exquisitus Angas, 1877

Turbo exquisitus, also known as the exquisite turban snail, is a type of sea snail. It's a marine gastropod mollusk from the Turbinidae family. These snails live in the ocean.

Shell Description

The shell of the exquisite turban snail is usually between 12 and 24 millimeters long. That's about half an inch to one inch. The shell is small and strong. It doesn't have a hole (it's "imperforate").

Its color can be pale greenish-buff or light pink. It often has broad, orange flame-like patterns on the upper part of its whorls. Whorls are the spiral turns that make up the snail's shell.

The snail's shell has about four and a half whorls. These whorls have an angle around their edge. The top part of the whorls is flat. The upper whorls have two strong ridges below this angle. The main body whorl, which is the largest part of the shell, has five strong, bumpy ridges.

Between these ridges and the suture (the line where the whorls join), there are four or five smaller, closer ridges. On the bottom of the body whorl, there are about eight ridges that are less bumpy. Fine lines cross the spaces between these ridges.

The spire (the pointed top part of the shell) is a bit tall. The aperture (the opening of the shell) is almost round and looks pearly inside. The columella (the central pillar of the shell) is thick. It ends in a blunt, hard bump at the bottom.

Sometimes, you can find a type of this snail that is bright orange-red all over.

Where They Live

This marine snail lives in the ocean waters off Southern Queensland and New South Wales, which are states in Australia.
