Turkey Time (also known as TRT or GMT+3) is a special time zone used in Turkey. It has been in use since September 2016. This time zone is three hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), which is often called GMT.

In 2016, the government of Turkey decided to stop changing their clocks for daylight saving time. This means they stay on the same time all year round.

What is Daylight Saving Time?

Daylight saving time (DST) is when clocks are moved forward by one hour during warmer months. This makes evenings feel longer. Then, in autumn, clocks are moved back. Many countries use DST to save energy or make better use of daylight.

Why Did Turkey Stop Changing Time?

The Turkish government decided to stop using daylight saving time in 2016. This was to keep the clocks the same all year. They believed it would help people and businesses.

How Did This Affect Other Places?

  • Northern Cyprus: This area first followed Turkey's decision on October 30, 2016. However, they later went back to using Eastern European Time on October 29, 2017.
  • Turkey's Plans Changed: In October 2017, the Turkish government said they would go back to daylight saving time on October 28, 2018. But they later changed their minds and decided not to. So, Turkey still stays on Turkey Time (GMT+3) all year.
