Tustin Legacy, Tustin, California facts for kids
Tustin Legacy is a huge planned community in Tustin, California. It's being built on the land that used to be a military base called Marine Corps Air Station Tustin. This big project covers about 1,600 acres (6.5 km²) and will have parks, shops, and homes for many families.
When it's finished, Tustin Legacy will include around 4,600 homes. It will also have over nine million square feet of space for businesses and public buildings.

What's in Tustin Legacy?
Tustin Legacy is designed to be a complete community. It has different areas for shopping, learning, and living.
Shopping and Fun
This area has places where people can shop, eat, and hang out.
The District
The main shopping center here is called "The District". It opened in August 2007 and is really big, covering about 1,000,000 square feet (92,903 m²). You can find many stores and restaurants there.
The Village at Tustin Legacy
Another shopping area is "The Village at Tustin Legacy". This place is about 22 acres big. It has a Stater Brothers grocery store and a CVS Pharmacy. There are also more shops, restaurants, and offices. It's located near a neighborhood called Columbus Square.
Schools and Public Services
Tustin Legacy also has important places for education and community services.
Training Academy
In September 2007, the Orange County Sheriff's Regional Training Academy opened here. This is where new police officers learn and practice their skills. It has classrooms, a running track, and even a small mock village for training.
College Campus
The Advanced Technology & Education Park (ATEP) is a campus for the South Orange County Community College District. Classes started there in August 2007. It offers programs for students who want to learn about technology and other subjects.
Local Schools
- Heritage School: This school was built to be an elementary school (for grades K-5). It's about 10 acres big. However, it's currently being used as a temporary home for Tustin Adult School and Sycamore High School. The reason is that there aren't enough young children living in the area yet to open it as an elementary school.
- Legacy Magnet Academy: This is a special school for students in grades 6 through 12. It's located right in the Tustin Legacy community, close to the Columbus Square and Huntley neighborhoods.
Other Important Buildings
- Army Reserve Center: In November 2015, a United States Army Reserve center opened in Tustin Legacy. This is a place for military reservists to train and work.
- Animal Shelter: A new animal shelter for Orange County Animal Care opened in March 2018. It's a large building, about 30,000 square feet, and sits on 10 acres of land. This shelter helps care for animals in need.

Many different neighborhoods have been built in Tustin Legacy, offering various types of homes.
Early Communities
- Tustin Field: This was one of the first communities built. It includes Tustin Field I and Tustin Field II, both finished in 2006. Tustin Field I has 376 homes, and Tustin Field II has 189 homes.
- Villages of Columbus: This community includes Columbus Square and Columbus Grove, completed in 2013. Columbus Square has 1,075 homes, plus 240 apartments for seniors. Columbus Grove has 465 homes.
Newer Homes
- Greenwood in Tustin Legacy: This neighborhood was finished in 2017 and has 375 homes.
- The St. Anton Apartments: These are 225 apartments located on Valencia South Loop Road and Warner.
- Amalfi: This community is located on Legacy Road and Tustin Ranch Road.
