Tuxcacuesco is a town and municipality located in the state of Jalisco, in central-western Mexico. The municipality covers an area of about 430 square kilometers (166 square miles). In 2020, the total population of the municipality was 5,482 people. The town of Tuxcacuesco itself had 1,674 residents.
History of Tuxcacuesco
Tuxcacuesco has a long and interesting history. Before the Spanish arrived, it was its own independent state. This means it had its own government and rules.
Spanish Arrival and Colonial Period
In 1523, Spanish explorers and soldiers conquered Tuxcacuesco. After this, it became part of a larger area called the province of Amula during the time Mexico was a Spanish colony.
Famous Birthplace
A very famous Mexican novelist, Juan Rulfo, was born in 1917. He was born in the town of Apulco. Apulco is located in the northeastern part of the Tuxcacuesco municipality.
