The Story of Twelvemile
Have you ever wondered how places get their names? Twelvemile got its name in a very straightforward way! It was named because it was about 12 miles away from a bigger town called Fredericktown.
Back in 1876, a post office opened in Twelvemile. A post office is where people could send and receive letters and packages. This post office helped the community for many years, but it eventually closed down in 1910.
The community also gave its name to a nearby stream, which is now known as Twelvemile Creek. So, the name 'Twelvemile' is important for both the community and the natural area around it!
