Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Twenty-Something Theatre is a special group that puts on plays in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It's an independent theatre company, which means they create their own shows and don't rely on a bigger organization. The company is led by its Artistic Director, Sabrina Evertt.

This theatre group does more than just perform plays. They also help new artists get started in the theatre world. A theatre critic named Colin Thomas once said that Twenty-Something Theatre is very important for Vancouver's culture.

Helping New Artists Shine

Twenty-Something Theatre has a yearly event called the "Spotlight production series." This series helps one new artist from the Vancouver area each year. They pick someone who is just starting out, like an actor, a director, or a playwright (someone who writes plays). The Spotlight series gives these artists a chance to show their talent and become more well-known.

In 2010, the company worked on its very first original play. It was called Prodigals and was written by Sean Minogue. They first put on a "workshop production" of this play. A workshop production is like a practice run, where they try out the play and see how it works before putting on a full show.
