The twinspot triplefin (scientific name: Lepidonectes bimaculatus) is a small, interesting fish. It belongs to a group of fish called triplefin blennies. Scientists Gerald R. Allen and David Ross Robertson first described this species in 1992.

About the Twinspot Triplefin

The twinspot triplefin gets its name from two small spots it might have on its body. It's a type of blenny, which are usually small fish with long bodies. They often live near the bottom of the ocean.

Where the Twinspot Triplefin Lives

This special fish lives in the eastern part of the Pacific Ocean. So far, scientists have only found it near a place called Malpelo Island. This island is part of Colombia. It's a remote island known for its amazing marine life.

How the Twinspot Triplefin Helps Other Fish

The twinspot triplefin has a very important job in the ocean. It acts like a "cleaner fish." This means it helps other, bigger fish by cleaning them. It eats tiny parasites and dead skin off their bodies. This helps the bigger fish stay healthy.

Its only known "client" (the fish it cleans) is a type of grouper called the Epinephelus labriformis. This is a great example of how different animals in nature help each other!
