Tyler Steinkamp (born March 7, 1995), known online as Tyler1, is an American online streamer and a professional League of Legends player. He became very famous for his gaming streams.

Tyler1 first became well-known when he was banned from League of Legends in April 2016. This happened because he was often mean and caused problems for other players in the game. People even called him "The Most Toxic Player in North America." He was allowed to play again in 2018 after he promised to change. His first stream after being unbanned had over 382,000 people watching at the same time on Twitch. This was a new record for a single streamer who wasn't part of a big tournament.

Today, Tyler1 is one of the most popular online streamers in the world.

Tyler1's Gaming Journey

Early Days and Challenges (2014–2016)

In 2014, Tyler1 reached the "Challenger" rank in League of Legends. This is the highest rank you can get in the game. He was known for being very good at playing a character called Draven.

However, he was also known for being very mean to his teammates. He would say bad things and sometimes even try to lose the game on purpose if he felt upset. Because of this behavior, he had many of his game accounts permanently banned over the years.

Tyler1 later started acting even more badly to get more people to watch his streams. In April 2016, he made a video showing his bad behavior and promised to change. This video was watched over 2 million times on YouTube. His Twitch channel grew very quickly, from about 5,700 followers to over 92,000 in just one month.

Even though he promised to change, his bad behavior continued. Other famous players and professionals spoke out against how he was acting. On April 30, 2016, the company that makes League of Legends, Riot Games, announced that Tyler1 would no longer be allowed to have an account. They said they would ban any account he tried to play on, even if he hadn't broken any rules yet.

Trying New Things (2016–2018)

After being banned from League of Legends, Tyler1 still tried to play. But as soon as he streamed himself playing, Riot Games would quickly find out and ban his account again. He also tried playing in his free time, making new accounts, but they were always found and banned.

Since he couldn't play League of Legends, Tyler1 started playing other games to keep his viewers entertained. He played games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. He also did fun, non-gaming streams, like dressing up as the painter Bob Ross and showing his viewers how to cook. Even with the ban, more and more people followed him. He decided to leave university to focus on making online content full-time.

In November 2017, Tyler1 created his own League of Legends tournament called the Tyler1 Championship Series (TCS). It was a funny version of the official League of Legends tournaments. Tyler1 streamed from in front of a green screen, making it look like he was in big stadiums. The tournament had over 200,000 people watching at the same time on Twitch. Professional players and commentators also watched it. Tyler1 paid the winning team $10,000 himself, without any sponsors.

The Unban and Return (2018–Present)

In January 2018, Tyler1 was finally allowed to play League of Legends again. His first stream after being unbanned was huge! Over 382,000 people watched it at the same time. This broke the record for the most people watching a single streamer on Twitch.

Since then, Tyler1 has become one of the most popular online streamers. He has said that he earns a lot of money each year just from selling his own products, like clothes. He has won the "Best League of Legends Streamer" award at The Streamer Awards in both 2022 and 2023.

In April 2018, for April Fools' Day, Tyler1 made a funny video called "A Day in the Life of Tyler1." It was a parody of his life, again using a green screen.

In September 2018, Riot Games invited Tyler1 to play in a special "Streamer Showmatch" with other famous content creators. He was also asked to commentate on the official League of Legends summer finals.

The Tyler1 Championship Series (TCS) returned in November 2018 with an even bigger prize of $50,000, which Tyler1 again paid for himself. Many people praised how much better the tournament had become. The TCS came back for a third time in December 2019.

In 2020, Tyler1 started a "Jungle Challenge." His goal was to reach the Challenger rank in the game while only playing the "jungle" role. He even took a break from streaming to focus completely on this goal. He achieved it in May 2020 after playing 1,800 games. He then did the same thing for the "top lane" role in June 2021 and the "mid lane" role in September 2021. In February 2022, he reached Challenger in the final role, "support," after 450 games. This is a very rare achievement, as few players have reached Challenger in all five roles in League of Legends. Riot Games celebrated his accomplishment and sent him a special gift of five medals.

In October 2020, Tyler1 joined the South Korean esports team T1 as a content creator. He even made a video with famous T1 player Faker. He later left the T1 team in 2022.

In 2023, Tyler1 became very interested in online chess. He played thousands of games in just a few months. Later that year, he was invited to play in an amateur chess tournament called PogChamps. In February 2024, he won "Best Chess Streamer" at The Streamer Awards. By March 2024, he reached a very high chess rating on Chess.com, putting him in the top 1.5% of all players on the site.

Tyler1 is still known for being very direct and sometimes harsh with his words. For example, in 2022, he was banned from the chat in Overwatch 2 because of a previous ban in Overwatch 1. He also sometimes gets upset during games and makes strong comments about other players.

Tyler1's Life Outside Streaming

Tyler Steinkamp studied computer science at Central Methodist University. However, he left college to focus on his streaming career. While at Central Methodist University, he played as a running back for the university's football team.

Tyler1 has mentioned in an interview that he pays his mother a large amount of money each year to cook dinner for him.

On December 17, 2023, Tyler1 announced on social media that his girlfriend Macaiyla was expecting a baby. Their daughter was born on April 11, 2024.
