On October 2, 2019, an exciting announcement was made. It happened on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Nickelodeon and Tyler Perry were working together. They planned to create a new comedy series. The show would be about a 10-year-old rapper. Its first name was Young Dylan.

Tyler Perry is the writer for the show. His company, Tyler Perry Studios, produces the series. Dylan Gilmer was chosen to star as Young Dylan. On January 23, 2020, the full cast was announced.
