Tyyne Lilja Leivo-Larsson (born Tyyne Leivo) was an important Finnish politician and diplomat. She was born on March 3, 1902, in Uusikirkko and passed away on August 1, 1977, in Helsinki. Tyyne Leivo-Larsson made history as the first Finnish woman to become an Ambassador. She served as Ambassador in Oslo, Norway, from 1958 to 1966. She was also an Envoy (a type of diplomat) and later Ambassador to Reykjavík, Iceland, from 1958 to 1965.

Even more remarkably, she was the first woman in all the Nordic countries to lead a government. This happened when she served as Deputy Prime Minister for Reino Kuuskoski in 1958.

Tyyne Leivo-Larsson also held several important government positions. She was the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs and later the Minister of Social Affairs. She served in these roles in different governments, including the Fagerholm I, Törngren, and Kekkonen V Cabinets between 1948 and 1956. She also served in the Kuuskoski Cabinet and Fagerholm's second cabinet in 1958 and from 1956 to 1957.

She was first elected to the Parliament of Finland in 1948. She represented the Social Democratic Party of Finland until 1958. Later, from 1966 to 1970, she was a Member of Parliament for the Social Democratic Union of Workers and Smallholders party. During this time, she led her party's group in Parliament. She married Bror Nils Larsson in 1937.

Early Life and Education

Tyyne Leivo grew up in a time of big changes in Finland. When she was 16 years old, she was involved in the Finnish Civil War. This was a conflict within Finland. She was on the side of the Red Guard. She may have been part of a group that managed to escape the city of Tampere during a major battle. A poet named Kössi Kaatra described her as a brave young person. She was ready to help and even dared to drive wounded people to safety.

After the war, Tyyne Leivo continued her education. She finished middle school in 1918 at a new girls' school in Helsinki. She later studied journalism at a high school from 1925 to 1929. However, she did not complete her degree in journalism.

Her Work in Parliament

During her time in the Parliament of Finland, Tyyne Leivo-Larsson was a very active member. She worked on several important committees. These committees help make decisions about different areas of the country.

She was a member of the Committee on Banking. This committee deals with money and financial matters. She also served on the Labor Committee, which focuses on workers' rights and employment. Additionally, she was part of the Subcommittee on Foreign Affairs. This group discusses how Finland interacts with other countries.
