How the UK RumFest Started
The festival was started in 2007 by a person named Ian Burrell. He is known as the "Global Rum Ambassador." Ian wanted to share his passion for rum with more people.
Ian had worked with drinks since 1990. In 1998, he began working with a company called J. Wray and Nephew Ltd.. They make rum in Jamaica. Later, he also worked with other drink companies. He also helped groups like the West Indies Rum & Spirits Producers Association. This group represents many different rums from the Caribbean.
The UK RumFest became very popular. It inspired other rum festivals around the world. These include events in Miami, Puerto Rico, Berlin, and Paris. There was even a first rum festival in Mauritius.
