The End of the USP
The United Somali Party operated as a self-governing state until 1998. After this, its territory became part of a larger region. This new region was called Puntland. Puntland is an autonomous state within Somalia.
Joining Puntland
In 1998, Puntland was established. The areas controlled by the USP joined Puntland. This marked the end of the USP as a separate political entity. Many of its leaders and members then became part of the Puntland government.
