Discovering the World of Gliding

The museum has some awesome goals. They want to save and share the history of soaring flight. Soaring is when gliders use air currents to stay up high. They also help you learn about math and science through fun exhibits.

The museum supports new ideas, like planes powered by the sun. They want to inspire kids in New Mexico and visitors to learn. Their goal is to show everyone the amazing wonder of flight!

How the Museum Started

The idea for the museum began in 1995. It first opened its doors in 1996 at the Moriarty, New Mexico airport. Later, in 2006, the museum moved to its current spot. You can find it at 918 Historic US Route 66 East in Moriarty.

A person named George Applebay was the first president. He worked with ten volunteers on the museum's board. They spent ten years gathering more than 50 gliders and models. They also worked hard to find the perfect home for the museum.
