Ugo Ventimiglia facts for kids
Ugo Ventimiglia was an important church leader from Italy who lived a long time ago. He was born in a place called Ventimiglia. He passed away on December 23, 1172. Sometimes, his name is also written as Ottone.
Ugo Ventimiglia: A Church Leader
Ugo Ventimiglia became a very important person in the Catholic Church. He was made a Cardinal-Bishop of Palestrina. A cardinal is a high-ranking official in the Catholic Church, just below the Pope. The Pope is the leader of the Catholic Church.
Becoming a Cardinal
Ugo Ventimiglia was chosen to be a cardinal by Pope Alexander III. This happened at a special meeting called a "consistory." This meeting took place in a city called Sens in either 1164 or 1165. Being a Cardinal-Bishop of Palestrina meant he was in charge of a specific area, or "diocese," called Palestrina, and also had the important role of advising the Pope.
The Mystery of His Role
Even though Ugo Ventimiglia was a cardinal, his name doesn't show up in all the old records. Some lists of bishops from Palestrina don't mention him at all. Also, he doesn't appear to have signed any official documents from the Pope during his time as a cardinal. This makes his role a bit of a mystery to historians today!
