Uncle Art's Funland (also known as Funland and Uncle Nugent's Funland) is a really old and popular weekly puzzle and fun page. It was first created by Art Nugent in 1933. This feature includes jokes, riddles, and many paper-and-pencil games. You can find word games, math challenges, connect-the-dots art, crossword puzzles, and anagrams. Funland has appeared in newspapers and comic books since 1933. It has been shared regularly with many newspapers since 1950.

Art Nugent believed Uncle Art's Funland was so successful because it was made just for kids. He said that some cartoons are too hard for children to understand. But with Uncle Art's Funland, even young kids can enjoy coloring. Older children can have fun solving the puzzles.

Fun in Comic Books

The puzzles from Uncle Art's Funland were also printed in many old comic books. They usually appeared as a single page of fun. These pages had different names depending on the comic book. Here are some examples of where they appeared:

  • Popular Comics (1936–1938) — sometimes called Nugent's Originals
  • The Funnies (1936–1938) — known as Home Magic

  • Champ Comics (1940–1943) — called Champ Puzzlers
  • Sensation Comics and Wonder Woman (1943–1944) — appeared as Victory Puzzles
  • Detective Comics (1943–1945) — included as Detective Puzzles
  • Felix the Cat (1953–1955) — sometimes called Play Fun
