Discovering Unionville's Past
Unionville has a rich history, especially linked to mining. It was once a busy camp for the Whitlatch-Union Mine. This mine operated for many years, first from 1864 to 1872, and then again from 1905 to 1942.
A Golden Past: What the Mine Produced
The Whitlatch-Union Mine was very successful. It produced a lot of valuable metals. Miners found over 17,000 ounces of gold there. They also discovered more than 8,000 ounces of silver. Besides these precious metals, the mine yielded nine tons of copper, nine tons of zinc, and 40 tons of lead.
Unionville on the Big Screen
Even though Unionville was a mining camp, it also had a connection to movies! In 1926, a film called "The Growler Girl" was shot there. This was one of the first movies ever filmed on location in Montana.
