The United Brethren in Christ Church is a very old and special church building. It is also known as "Five Mile Chapel." This historic church is located southeast of Cincinnati, in Anderson Township, Ohio, United States.
It was built way back in 1844. The church is made of strong stone, with a stone base and a roof made of slate. This church was the first place of worship for the United Brethren in Christ group in southeastern Hamilton County. Many other churches in the area started because of this one!
Building the Church
The people who built the church did it themselves. They used stones they found in a small creek nearby. The church has a simple rectangular shape. In 1896, they added a bell tower to the front. You can enter the church through the bottom of this tower.
Unique Features
One of the coolest parts of the church is a big, fancy window on the front. It's designed in a style called Gothic. This style often has tall, pointed arches.
Except for the front, the church is surrounded by its cemetery. This cemetery is about as old as the church itself. It's a peaceful place with many old gravestones.
A Historic Landmark
In 1978, the United Brethren in Christ Church was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list of places in the United States that are important to history.
It's usually harder for churches and cemeteries to get on this list. But this church made it because it's so well-preserved. Its old architecture is still in great shape. It also played a big part in the local history of the area.
