The Upham-Walker House is a very old and important building in Concord, New Hampshire. It was built way back in 1831. This house is special because it's the only one left in central Concord built in the old Federal style. Today, the state owns it and uses it for important events. The Upham-Walker House stands on Park Street in Concord. It is across from the New Hampshire State House, which is where the state government works. The house is also near the New Hampshire State Library and St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

What Does It Look Like?

The house is a two-and-a-half-story building made of brick. It has a roof that slopes down from the front. The main front of the house has five sections. The front door is in the middle. It has a small porch with columns and a railing. There are windows on each side of the main door.

The house also shows some features of the Greek Revival style. This style became popular after the Federal style. Inside, the house has different looks from the 1800s. This shows how styles changed over time.

Who Lived Here?

The Upham-Walker House was built in 1831 by a man named Nathaniel Gookin Upham. He was the first person to own the house. Nathaniel Upham became a very important judge on the New Hampshire Supreme Court. He also worked on international legal cases.

Later, other important people lived in the house. One was Reverend Sheafe Walker. He was a leading minister in the Episcopal church. Another owner was Doctor Charles Rumford Walker.

Today, the state of New Hampshire owns the Upham-Walker House. It is used by the state legislature for special meetings and events.
