Uptown is an American music group. They were also known as Uptown Girls and Uptown Girls featuring Jan and Michelle. This group was popular in the 1980s. They came from Dallas, Texas.
Uptown's Hit Songs
"(I Know) I'm Losing You"
In 1983, Uptown recorded a lively dance song. It was a cover of "I Know) I'm Losing You" by The Temptations. This version included the original song and an instrumental track.
The song became very popular at the Starck nightclub in Dallas. DJ Rick Squillante played it often. Soon, it was a favorite in many nightclubs across the U.S. In 1987, it reached number 80 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The song was re-released in 1989. This new version had different mixes. These included the Ultimix version and the '89 Remix.
"I'm Gonna Love You"
In 1987, the group released a second song. They called themselves Uptown Girls feat. Jan & Michelle for this release. The song was titled "I'm Gonna Love You".
It came out as a 12-inch single. One side had the "Club Mix" and the "Radio Mix". The other side featured the "Latin Mix" and an instrumental version. Scott Yahney wrote and produced this song.
"Rescue Me"
A third 12-inch single came out in 1989. This was a dance cover of "Rescue Me". The original song was a hit for Fontella Bass in 1965.
The single included different versions of the song. These were the "Rescue Me Vocal" and the "Radio Edit". It also had the "House Mix" and an instrumental version.
