Maurice Uriel "Uri" Coronel (born December 24, 1946 – died July 18, 2016) was an important person in Dutch sports. He was a sports director and later the chairman of the famous football club, Ajax Amsterdam. He led the club from April 2008 to July 2011. Uri Coronel was born in Amsterdam.

Uri Coronel's Career in Sports

Uri Coronel was a board member for the Dutch football club Ajax Amsterdam from 1989 to 1997. He helped move the club from its old stadium, De Meer Stadion, to its current home, the Amsterdam ArenA. This was a big change for the club.

Becoming Chairman of Ajax

In 2007, Uri Coronel led a group that looked into how Ajax was being run. After this review, the club's chairman and managing director left their jobs. Uri Coronel then became the new chairman of Ajax. This job was not paid.

As chairman, Mr. Coronel faced some challenges. People criticized his leadership because his plans for the club seemed different from what his own group had suggested.

Leaving Ajax

On March 30, 2011, Uri Coronel and the other board members of Ajax announced they would resign. This happened because of disagreements within the club's leadership. There were tensions with the famous former player and club icon, Johan Cruyff.

Work Outside of Ajax

Outside of his work with Ajax, Uri Coronel was very successful in the insurance business. He was also a member of the Sportraad Amsterdam. This group advises the city government on sports matters. He held many other roles in community organizations too.

Uri Coronel passed away on July 18, 2016, at the age of 69.
