Urien Wiliam (born November 7, 1929, died October 21, 2006) was a talented writer from Wales. He wrote many books and plays in the Welsh language. He was known for his stories and dramas that entertained many people.

Who Was Urien Wiliam?

Early Life and Education

Urien Wiliam was born in a town called Barry, Vale of Glamorgan. His father, Stephen J. Williams, was a professor at Swansea University. Urien loved the Welsh language. He studied it at Swansea University too. He became very good at understanding how Welsh grammar works.

Later, Urien went to Liverpool University. There, he studied psychology. For his special project, he translated a test called the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children into Welsh. This helped measure how smart Welsh-speaking children were. He made sure the test worked well for them.

A Life of Writing and Teaching

Urien's first job was teaching at Trinity College, Carmarthen. He married Eiryth Davies. They had three children together. One of their children is Sioned Wiliam, who also became a well-known writer.

Urien was a very successful writer. He won the Drama Medal twice! This was at the National Eisteddfod of Wales, a big festival for Welsh culture. He won it in 1972 and again in 1973.

After a while, Urien became a full-time writer. He wrote scripts for a popular Welsh children's TV show. This show was called Wil Cwac Cwac. Urien Wiliam passed away in Penarth.
