Ustupo is a small town located in the Kuna Yala province of Panama. It is a unique place built on several small islands. These islands are connected by bridges, making it easy to move around. Ustupo is located about 600 meters (about 2,000 feet) away from the mainland coast.
Life in Ustupo
Ustupo is home to the indigenous Guna people. They have a rich culture and history. The town's location on islands makes it special. Many people in Ustupo work as fishers. They also create beautiful crafts.
How Ustupo is Built
The town is made up of at least six small islands. These islands are very close to each other. Bridges connect them, forming one community. This design helps protect the town from the sea.
Getting Around Ustupo
Ustupo has its own airport, called Ustupo Airport. One of its runways (runway 15/33) actually connects two of the islands with a bridge. There is also another runway located on the mainland. This airport helps people travel to and from Ustupo. It connects the island community to other parts of Panama.
