A Glimpse into Utah's Past
How Utah Got Its Name
The community of Utah was given its name because of the Utah Territory. This territory was a large area in the western United States. It was created in 1850, the same year the post office opened in Utah, Illinois.
The Old Post Office
Imagine sending letters and packages from a small building in Utah! A post office was set up here in 1850. It served the community for many years. People could send and receive mail right in their own neighborhood. However, the post office eventually closed its doors in 1906.
