Vaino Vahing (born February 15, 1940, died March 23, 2008) was a talented Estonian writer, psychiatrist, and playwright. He was known for his interesting stories and plays. He became a member of the Estonian Writers Union in 1973.
Early Life and Education
Vaino Vahing was born in a place called Aravu in Põlva County, Estonia. He studied medicine at the University of Tartu starting in 1963. He became a doctor in 1969.
After becoming a doctor, Vahing worked in different roles related to psychiatry. He was a doctor at a psychiatry clinic in Tartu. He also taught at the Institute of Psychiatry at the University of Tartu for many years.
Vahing wrote many articles about psychiatry. But he also wrote a lot of literature, including novels, books, and plays. His medical background and his own life experiences often influenced his writing. He even acted in some Estonian films! Vaino Vahing passed away in Tartu.

Awards and Family Life
Vaino Vahing received an important award for his work. He was honored with the Estonian White Cross, which is a special recognition.
He was married to two talented women: writer Maimu Berg and actress Heli Vahing. With Maimu Berg, he had a daughter named Julia Laffranque. Julia grew up to be very successful. She became a judge in the Supreme Court of Estonia and later a judge at the European Court of Human Rights.
