What's in a Name?
Valderrubio has an interesting history with its name. For a long time, it was known as Asquerosa. This old name meant 'filthy' in Spanish.
How Valderrubio Got Its Name
Some people think the name 'Asquerosa' actually came from an older Latin phrase, 'Aqua Rosae'. This means 'Rose Water'. It's a much prettier meaning! In 1943, the town officially changed its name to Valderrubio.
