Valentin Porte was born on September 7, 1990. He is a famous French handball player. He currently plays for Montpellier Handball.
Valentin is known for winning many big titles. He helped his team win the European Championship in 2014. He also won the World Championship in 2015 and again in 2017. A big highlight was winning an Olympic gold medal in 2020. With his club, Montpellier, he won the EHF Champions League in 2018.
He usually plays as a right wing. This position is on the side of the court. He can also play as a right back, which is a more central attacking role.
Valentin Porte's Handball Journey
Valentin Porte started playing in France's top handball league, called Starligue, in 2008. His first team was Fenix Toulouse Handball. He played there for several years.
In the summer of 2016, Valentin moved to another big club, Montpellier Handball. This team was also in the same league. With Montpellier, he achieved a huge success. They won the EHF Champions League in 2018. This is one of the most important club competitions in European handball.
Playing for France
Valentin Porte first joined the French national team in 2013. His first major tournament with them was the World Championship in the same year.
He has won many medals with the French team:
- In 2015, he won the World Championship in Qatar.
- At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, he won a silver medal. He was also chosen for the tournament's All-Star team.
- He won another World Championship gold medal in 2017.
- In 2020, he achieved his dream of winning an Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
- He also won a silver medal at the 2023 World Championship.
- Valentin has won gold medals at the European Championship in 2014 and 2024. He also won a bronze medal in 2018.
