Vanderlei Farias da Silva (born February 1, 1984), known simply as Vanderlei, is a Brazilian football player. He plays as a goalkeeper for the team Mirassol. Goalkeepers are super important in football. Their main job is to stop the other team from scoring goals!

Vanderlei's Football Journey

Starting Out

Vanderlei was born in Porecatu, a city in Paraná, Brazil. He started his professional football career in 2004 with a local team called Londrina.

In 2006, he moved to Olímpia. He played for them in a competition called the Copa Paulista.

In January 2007, Vanderlei joined Paranavaí. He quickly became a key player for the team. He played 24 matches and helped his team win the Campeonato Paranaense championship. He even managed to keep the opposing team from scoring in the final matches, which is called a clean sheet.

Time with Coritiba

On May 8, 2007, Vanderlei signed with Coritiba. This team was in Série B, a big league in Brazil. He played his first game for Coritiba just four days later.

For a while, he was a backup player, meaning he wasn't always the starting goalkeeper. But he worked hard. In 2008, he got a chance to be the main goalkeeper when another player was injured.

Vanderlei played his 100th game for Coritiba on October 2, 2011. He became the team's main goalkeeper in 2012. He played his 200th game for Coxa (Coritiba's nickname) in March 2013.

On November 30, 2014, Vanderlei reached 300 games for Coritiba. He made many important saves that day. He played in every league match that season, helping his team avoid being moved down to a lower league.

Vanderlei played a total of 301 official games for Coritiba. This made him one of the players with the most appearances for the club.

Playing for Santos

In January 2015, Vanderlei joined Santos, another top team in Brazil. He signed a three-year contract. He played his first game for Santos in February.

In March 2015, Vanderlei got a facial injury during a game. He had to have surgery and was out for three months. When he came back, he had to work to get his starting spot back.

He became the main goalkeeper again later that year. He played 28 league games for Santos in 2015.

Vanderlei was a very important player when Santos won the 2016 Campeonato Paulista championship. He even saved two penalty kicks in the semifinals! He played his 100th game for Santos in September 2016.

In 2017, Santos extended Vanderlei's contract until 2020. He also played in his first Copa Libertadores game, which is a big international club competition.

Vanderlei played his 200th game for Peixe (Santos' nickname) in June 2018. In 2019, he started to play less as a new goalkeeper joined the team.

Moving to Grêmio

On January 18, 2020, Vanderlei moved to another big team, Grêmio. He signed a two-year deal with them.
