Vanna Bonta (born April 3, 1953 – died July 8, 2014) was an amazing Italian-American writer, actress, and inventor. She wrote a special book called Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel. As an actress, Vanna Bonta played "Zed's Queen" in the movie The Beastmaster. She also used her voice talents in many famous films, like Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and on TV shows.
In 2013, a short poem called a haiku, written by Vanna Bonta, was sent to Mars! It was one of 1,100 haiku launched from Cape Canaveral on the NASA spacecraft MAVEN. How cool is that?

About Vanna Bonta's Early Life
Vanna Bonta was born in the United States. Her mother, Maria Luisa Bonta, was an artist from Florence, Italy. Her father, James Cecil Bonta, was a military officer from Kentucky. Vanna's aunt, Lidia Ugolini, was also a writer who wrote books for children in Italy.
Vanna Bonta's Writing Career
In 1995, Vanna Bonta's first novel, Flight: A Quantum Fiction Novel, was published. This book was special because it mixed different types of stories together. The American Library Association called it an "amazing, genre-bending parable." This means it was a story that taught a lesson and didn't fit into just one category of books.
Publishers Weekly said her first book was everything from very touching to funny and quirky. It even made jokes about things like "bathtub books" and "self-doubt tapes."
In 2013, Vanna Bonta's haiku was chosen to travel to Mars on the NASA spacecraft MAVEN. People voted for their favorite haiku from over 12,500 submissions, and Vanna's poem was one of the top five!

The 2suit: A Space Suit for Two
In 2006, Vanna Bonta started talking about an invention she called the 2suit. This was a special suit designed for space. It could be connected to another 2suit, allowing two or more people to stay close to each other in space where there's very little gravity.
In 2008, the TV show The Universe on the History Channel asked Vanna Bonta if they could build a test version of the 2suit. They even offered to send her into zero gravity to try it out! She said yes. The TV show concluded that the "2Suit is one small step for humankind colonizing the universe."
Helping with the Lunar Lander Challenge
From 2007 to 2009, Vanna Bonta was part of the annual Lunar Lander Challenge. This was a contest supported by NASA and Northrop Grumman. The goal was to build a lightweight spacecraft that could land on the moon.
Vanna Bonta was a team member of BonNova. She was the creative director and helped design a special device. This device was made to release pressure in powerful rocket engines.
