Venado is a special area called a district in Costa Rica. It is part of the San Carlos area, which is in the Alajuela province. Venado is known for its amazing natural caves and beautiful green areas.

Venado became its own district on April 14, 1966. This happened because of a special government decision called "Decreto Ejecutivo 18." Before this, Venado was part of the Grecia area.

Venado covers an area of about 169.28 square kilometers. This makes it the seventh largest district in its canton. It sits at an elevation of about 252 meters above sea level.

Just three kilometers from the center of Venado, you can find amazing caves. These caves are very long, stretching for about 2000 meters! Inside, they have many different parts. You can explore galleries, rooms, tunnels, and even natural windows.

Besides the caves, Venado is also home to beautiful rivers. You will also find thick forests and stunning waterfalls. These natural features make Venado a great place for outdoor adventures.

Where is Venado Located?

Venado shares its borders with several other places. To the northeast, it borders the Monterrey district. To the southeast, it borders La Fortuna. On its west and southwest sides, it borders Tilarán. Finally, to the northwest, it borders the Guatuso canton.
