Venado Tuerto is a city in Argentina. It is located in the southwest part of the Santa Fe province. About 76,000 people lived there in 2010. The name "Venado Tuerto" means "One-Eyed Deer" in Spanish.

History of Venado Tuerto
Venado Tuerto was started on April 26, 1884. A man named Eduardo Casey founded the city. He was born in Lobos, Buenos Aires, in 1847. Eduardo Casey's parents were Irish immigrants who became very rich. Casey bought a large area of land. He planned to use this land for farming and raising horses.
The Name "One-Eyed Deer"
The city's name, "Venado Tuerto," literally means one-eyed deer. No one knows for sure how the city got its name. There are many folk stories about it. Some people thought the name was not very nice. They asked to change it several times, often suggesting "Ciudad Casey" (Casey City). However, the name was never changed.
City Status and Government
Venado Tuerto officially became a city on December 16, 1935. A mayor leads the city's government. In 2008, José Luis Freyre was the mayor. He was a member of the Justicialist Party, which is a major political party in Argentina.
