Vernéaz facts for kids
Vernéaz is a charming little village located in the beautiful country of Switzerland. It's found in the western part of Switzerland, in a region known as the canton of Neuchâtel. Think of a canton like a state or a larger area within a country.
Vernéaz is part of a bigger local government area called La Grande-Béroche. This "municipality" is like a town or city council that manages local services for several villages, including Vernéaz.
A Look Back: Vernéaz's History
Vernéaz has an interesting history of being an independent area and then joining with its neighbors.
Becoming Part of a Larger Area
For a long time, Vernéaz was its own independent "municipality." This means it had its own local government and made its own decisions. But in 1875, it joined with a nearby area called Vaumarcus. Together, they formed a new municipality known as Vaumarcus-Vernéaz. This partnership lasted for many years, until 1966.
Joining La Grande-Béroche
After 1966, Vaumarcus-Vernéaz continued to exist. Then, on January 1, 2018, another big change happened. Vernéaz, along with Vaumarcus and several other villages, decided to join forces. They all merged together to create the new, larger municipality of La Grande-Béroche. This helps them work together more efficiently and share resources.
