Vernon Larnard Norwood (born April 10, 1992) is an American track and field athlete. He is best known for his speed in the 400 meters race.

About Vernon Norwood

Vernon Norwood grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana. He started running track when he was in his junior year at Morgan City High School.

College Track Star

Vernon was a very successful college athlete. He competed for South Plains College and won many national championships there. Later, he joined the LSU Tigers track and field team. For the LSU Tigers, he won four national titles, showing his amazing talent.

Professional Running Career

Vernon Norwood turned professional in 2015. Since then, he has become one of the top 400-meter runners in the world. He has won many medals for the United States in major international competitions.

Early Achievements (2015-2016)

In 2015, Vernon earned a spot on the U.S. team for the 2015 World Championships in Athletics. He ran in the 400 meters and also helped the 4x400-meter relay team win a gold medal.

The next year, in 2016, he won the 400 meters at the U.S. Indoor Championships. At the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships, he helped the 4x400-meter relay team win another gold medal.

Continued Success (2018-2019)

Vernon continued to shine in relay races. In 2018, he won a silver medal with the 4x400-meter relay team at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships.

In 2019, he set a new personal best time of 44.40 seconds in the 400 meters. He also won a gold medal as part of the 4x400-meter relay team at the 2019 World Athletics Championships.

Olympic and World Medals (2021-2024)

The year 2021 was big for Vernon as he competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. He won a bronze medal in the mixed 4x400-meter relay. He also helped the men's 4x400-meter relay team win a gold medal, a huge achievement!

In 2022, at the 2022 World Athletics Championships, Vernon won two more medals. He earned a bronze in the mixed 4x400-meter relay. He also took home a gold medal with the men's 4x400-meter relay team.

He continued his winning streak in 2023 at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. He set a new personal best of 44.26 seconds in the 400 meters. He also won another gold medal with the men's 4x400-meter relay team.

At the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Vernon added more medals to his collection. He won a silver medal in the mixed 4x400-meter relay. His team even broke the world record in the heats! He then won another gold medal with the men's 4x400-meter relay team, setting an Olympic record.
