Veronica Hazelhoff (born February 22, 1947 – died July 1, 2009) was a Dutch writer. She wrote many popular books for children and young adults.

Writing Journey
Veronica Hazelhoff started her writing career in 1981. Her very first book was called Nou moe!. This book was a big success! It won two important awards: the Gouden Ezelsoor and the Zilveren Griffel.
Famous Characters
Veronica Hazelhoff often wrote about strong female characters. Her first three books, Nou moe!, Hierzo!, and Auww!, all featured the same main character, a young girl named Maartje. These stories were very popular. In fact, her book Auww! won the Gouden Griffel award in 1984. This is a very special award for children's books in the Netherlands.
Inspiration for Stories
Veronica Hazelhoff won the Zilveren Griffel award two more times. She won in 1995 for her book Veren. Later, in 2007, she won for Bezoek van Mister P.. This last book was inspired by her own life. Veronica lived with a health condition called rheumatism for many years. This condition can make joints feel stiff and painful. She used her experiences to make her stories real and relatable.
