Sylvia Weve (born on May 28, 1954) is a talented illustrator from the Netherlands. She is well-known for bringing stories to life with her amazing drawings.
Sylvia has illustrated more than 150 books, mostly for children. Her beautiful artwork has earned her many important awards, including the Gouden Penseel, the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs, and the Max Velthuijs-prijs.

Sylvia's Journey as an Illustrator
Sylvia Weve began her career as a children's book illustrator in 1983. Her very first book was Een noom op school, written by Corrie Hafkamp. Early in her career, she drew pictures for many books by Rindert Kromhout.
Over the years, Sylvia worked with many different authors. Some of these include Karel Eykman, Veronica Hazelhoff, Ted van Lieshout, Bies van Ede, and Edward van de Vendel. In 2006, she even wrote and illustrated her own book called Kip en ei (which means Chicken and Egg).
Working with Bette Westera
Later in her career, Sylvia started working closely with the writer Bette Westera. Their teamwork led to them winning several awards together. They won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs in 2015 for their book Doodgewoon (meaning Quite Ordinary). They won this same award again in 2020 for their book Uit elkaar (meaning Apart).
Special Recognition
In 2019, Sylvia Weve received a very special award called the Max Velthuijs-prijs. This award is given to an artist for all the amazing work they have done throughout their entire career. It shows how much her illustrations are loved and respected.
Besides books, Sylvia also created drawings for popular children's magazines. These included Okki, Taptoe, Jippo, and Ezelsoor. Her illustrations also appeared in magazines and newspapers for adults, such as Viva, Elsevier, Opzij, NRC Handelsblad, and De Volkskrant.
