Edward van de Vendel is a famous Dutch writer, especially known for his amazing children's literature. He was born on August 1, 1964. He writes many different kinds of books, including poetry, picture books, and novels for young people.
Early Life and Becoming a Writer
Edward van de Vendel was born in 1964 in a town called Leerdam in the Netherlands. Before he became a full-time writer in 2001, he worked as a teacher for many years. Imagine having a teacher who later writes books!
His Writing Journey
Edward van de Vendel started his writing career with poetry. His first book of poems, Betrap me, came out in 1996.
In 2001, he published a special book called Wat rijmt er op puree?. This book was the Kinderboekenweekgeschenk, which is a gift book given out during the annual Boekenweek (Dutch Book Week). It's a big honor to write this book!
He often works with talented artists who draw pictures for his stories. Some of these illustrators include Alice Hoogstad, Fleur van der Weel, Martijn van der Linden, Sebastiaan Van Doninck, and Sylvia Weve. Their drawings help bring his stories to life.

In 2004, he won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs for his book Superguppie. He shared this award with the illustrator, Fleur van der Weel. This book is about a super guppy fish!
He won the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs again in 2016. This time, it was for the book Stem op de okapi, which he created with Martijn van der Linden. An okapi is a very unique animal, like a mix between a zebra and a giraffe!
