The Story of Milleens Cheese

Veronica Steele was a pioneer in making artisan cheese in Ireland. "Artisan" means it was made by hand in a traditional way. She started making cheese to use up extra milk and to create jobs in the countryside.

Her cheese, Milleens, became very popular. It gained national attention when a famous chef, Declan Ryan, started using it in his restaurant, the Arbutus Lodge in Cork. This helped Milleens cheese become known all over Ireland.
