Vete-Katten (which means “wheat cat” in Swedish) is a very famous and old pastry shop and coffee house in Sweden. It's known for its delicious traditional Swedish cakes and pastries.
A Sweet History
Vete-Katten was started a long time ago, on January 20, 1928. A talented woman named Ester Nordhammar founded it. She had worked with pastries and cakes for 42 years before opening her own place! This coffee shop quickly became famous for its tasty Scandinavian and Swedish sweets.
In 1979, a group of people named Agneta, Osten Brolin, and a master pastry chef named Johan Sandelin bought Vete-Katten. They helped the shop grow even more.
For many years, something special about Vete-Katten was that only women worked there. This was quite unusual for businesses back then!
The coffee shop even won an award called the "Gourmet Merit" (which means "for gastronomic excellence"). This shows how good their food is!
Between 2003 and 2005, Vete-Katten shared some of its secrets! They published a recipe book. It included recipes for their main jams, breads, and their famous princess cake with its green layer.
Where to Find Vete-Katten
Besides the main shop, you can find smaller Vete-Katten branches in other places around Stockholm. These include locations in Ahlens, Stockholm Central Station, the Karolinska hospital, and the Continental hotel and gallery.
