Veterans Memorial Park is a special place located in downtown Davenport, Iowa, United States. It sits right along the famous Mississippi River. This park is one of four parks found in this area of Davenport. The others are Centennial Park, LeClaire Park, and River Heritage Park. The Riverfront Parkway, a path for walking and biking, runs along the park's southern edge.

History of Veterans Memorial Park

This park was created to honor military veterans. In October 2010, the Davenport City Council discussed where to build a memorial for veterans. They decided to form a special group to find the best spot.

Choosing the Park Location

The group chose an undeveloped area called Crescent Park. This land was also along the Mississippi River, close to the Crescent Rail Bridge. The city council officially approved this location in January 2011.

Park Dedication and Features

The park's entrance area was dedicated on Memorial Day in 2011. This area features three flagpoles. Over time, more parts of the park will be added. Plans include a large hill called a promontory berm, which is about 50 feet (15 m) high. There might also be a tall observation spire or another big memorial. An amphitheater, which is an outdoor stage area, is also planned for future development.
